EstlemanAlone Forge Books 25 October 2011 0765326914 / 9780765326911 First Edition Edition Paperback NEW Ships in 10-14 Day After Release date The second wacky comedic murder romp for Hollywood film detective Valentino Valentino wants to keep The Oracle, his beloved run-down movie palace, from being condemned before it even reopens, but murder keeps intruding into his otherwise quiet life. At a gala party held in memory of screen legend Greta Garbo, he’s having fun until the host, a hotshot developer named Matthew Rankin, tells Valentino about a certain letter from Garbo to his late wife. She and Garbo had been…close. Loren D. EstlemanNicotine Kiss March 1, Forge Books 2011 0765328453 / 9780765328458 First Edition Edition Paperback New Ships in 10-14 Day After Release date* It's fitting that Spielberg's cult classic Duel is playing in the background when Amos Walker joins the crowd at a smoke-filled trucker's bar. Soon enough, the cynical Detroit PI finds himself in a deadly vehicle duel of his own. By that time, however, he's already been shot, bludgeoned, and arrested--all during the course of tracking down a man who once saved Amos' life, cigarette smuggler Jeff Starzek, now possibly involved with counterfeiters. Though hobbled by a bullet that nearly cost him his leg, Walker doesn't slow down much as he picks up Starzek's trail, which leads from a middle-class suburb in Detroit to a tiny evangelical church to a remote motel in frigid northern Michigan and then back again before things finally fall into place. In this, Walker's eighteenth outing, Estleman delivers his usual combination of gripping action and satisfying irony, further cementing the solitary, hardboiled PI's reputation for giving as good as he gets. The riveting chase scenes are tailor-made for the screen. Stephanie Zvirin. 9780765328458 0.00 Price:

Loren D. EstlemanThe Adventures of Johnny Vermillion Forge Books 29/04/2008 0765348128 / 9780765348128 Mass Market Paperback New Ships in 10-14 Days *Starred Review* Johnny Vermillion, operator and featured performer of the Prairie Rose Repertory Company, travels the Wild West putting on plays in towns like Lockjaw, Diablo, and Purgatory. But that's just his cover: in fact, he and his small troop are bank robbers. And when a determined Pinkerton agent tips to what Johnny has been up to, an all-out pursuit results, culminating in a wickedly clever trap. Once again, Estleman proves why he is among the best of our contemporary western novelists (he is no slouch as a mystery author, either). Johnny and his merry band of thieves are thoroughly delightful characters, a bunch of good-natured rogues, colorful without being cartoony. Estleman's tone is light and adventurous (there is definitely a touch of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid here). This jaunty air is heightened by Estleman's mastery of a very dangerous narrative device--self-referential storytelling. By frequently breaking the wall that separates reader from writer--he refers, for example, to one character as "a fixture in outlaw tales of this type"--Estleman manages to bring us into the fun, as coconspirators (rather than simply jarring our narrative sensibilities). Set in "a West that should have been, but never quite was," this is, hands down, one of Estleman's best novels. As such, it will engage not just western devotees but readers of more meaty historical fiction as well. David Pitt. 9780765348128 0.00 Price:
